🚀 Alumni Assembly 2026: A Historic New Chapter for JA Alumni Europe 🌍
On April 11–12, 2026, alumni leaders from across Europe gathered in Warsaw, Poland, for a defining moment in the evolution of the JA Alumni movement. Powered by JA Alumni Europe and JA Alumni Poland, the 2026 Alumni Assembly marked the first-ever in-person Alumni Assembly in the history of JA Alumni Europe, bringing together alumni leaders, national representatives, and ecosystem partners for a full-day strategic gathering focused on the future of alumni leadership in Europe.
More than a governance meeting, the Assembly represented a transition into a new phase of growth for the European alumni network: one rooted in structure, convergence, sustainability, and long-term impact.
As part of the broader global momentum of the Alumni Leaders Academy Global (ALAG), led by Dana Khairallah, JA Worldwide's Alumni Community Manager, the Assembly reflected a growing alignment between regional alumni ecosystems and the evolving global alumni vision.
A Historic First for JA Alumni Europe
Hosted in Warsaw, the Assembly opened with welcoming remarks and the formal introduction of the Alumni Assembly Board:
- Silvan Vifian, Chair
- Mohamed Benziane, Secretary General
- Viktor Tsvetanov, Secretary
Additional contributors supporting the Assembly included Stephanie Symeonidi as Timekeeper, Jules Terrens as Remote Coordinator and Microphone Handler, and Defne Saylik as Scrutineer.
The Assembly agenda was unanimously approved, setting the tone for a collaborative and forward-looking day grounded in democratic participation and strategic dialogue.
Throughout the session, alumni leaders discussed and voted on a comprehensive set of strategic frameworks designed to shape the future of JA Alumni Europe through 2030.
Building the Backbone: The 5-Year Strategy Plan
One of the Assembly’s central moments was the presentation and adoption of the 5-Year Backbone Strategy, a comprehensive roadmap positioning JA Alumni Europe for long-term scale and sustainability.
The strategy articulated an ambitious 2030 vision:
“By 2030, JA Alumni Europe unites hundreds of thousands of JA Alumni members across Europe into a visible, credible and opportunity-driven network at scale.”
Built around five strategic pillars—Convergence, Sustainability, Empowerment, Experience, and Stability—the strategy outlined a phased roadmap spanning from 2025 to 2030.
The framework addressed key opportunities and challenges facing the network, including alumni activation, governance structures, institutional positioning, digitalisation, financial sustainability, and cross-border collaboration.
Importantly, the strategy emphasized stronger convergence between JA Alumni Europe, national alumni networks, and the wider global alumni ecosystem.
A Global Conversation: Panel with JA Worldwide & JA Alumni Honoris
One of the final highlights of the Assembly was a panel discussion featuring representatives from JA Alumni Honoris' Linda Sonnichsen, and JA Worldwide's Dana Khairallah.
Moderated as an open conversation with the Assembly, the session explored:
- Why this moment matters for the global alumni movement
- How JA Alumni Europe is entering a new phase of maturity
- The opportunities ahead for alumni leadership globally
During the discussion, Dana Khairallah highlighted the growing alignment between regional and global alumni strategies, particularly through the development of the Global Alumni Governance pillar within the Alumni Leaders Academy Global.
The conversation also referenced Youth Advocacy, further reinforcing the increasingly strategic role alumni are playing within the broader JA ecosystem.
Throughout the exchange, speakers emphasized that the work happening across Europe would contribute not only to current alumni communities, but also to future generations of JA leaders around the world.
Strengthening Governance Through the Convergence-Driven Model
A major highlight of the Assembly was the presentation and unanimous adoption of the Convergence-Driven Model, introducing a new structural architecture for JA Alumni Europe.
The model clarified the roles and relationships between:
- The European Core (strategic backbone)
- National Chapters (representation and legitimacy)
- The Initiative Ecosystem (innovation and impact)
At the heart of the framework is the creation of the Board of Member Networks (BMN), formalizing the role of national alumni leaders in shaping the collective direction of the organization.
The model reinforced a central belief shared throughout the Assembly:
“Europe does not exist without its nations, and nations rise through Europe.”
This structure reflects a broader movement taking shape across the global alumni network: creating stronger regional governance models while maintaining alignment with global priorities under the #OneJA spirit.
Reimagining Alumni Engagement Across Europe
Several strategies presented during the Assembly focused on strengthening alumni engagement at scale.
Alumni Communities Strategy
The Alumni Communities Strategy introduced a segmentation model designed to better support the diverse realities of alumni journeys.
Five alumni communities were formally defined:
- Starters
- Professionals
- Entrepreneurs
- Leaders
- Honoris
In addition, the strategy introduced the concept of the “Missing Middle”—alumni who remain connected emotionally but are not yet engaged in leadership pathways—proposing a new “Explorers” community to better serve this group.
Gather was identified as the central platform for managing and activating these communities across Europe.
Recruitment, Activation & Involvement Strategy
The Assembly also explored how alumni networks can move members from passive participation toward deeper involvement.
The strategy established clear definitions for:
- Recruited Alumni
- Activated Alumni
- Involved Alumni
It emphasized peer-driven engagement, micro-volunteering, mentorship opportunities, and leadership pathways designed to create stronger emotional connection and long-term participation.
Buddy Programme Strategy
Another significant initiative was the Buddy Programme Strategy, designed to integrate alumni directly into the JA student experience.
Rather than engaging alumni only after graduation, the framework creates opportunities for alumni to mentor and support JA students throughout their journey.
The strategy envisions the Buddy Programme being implemented across all JA Alumni Europe member networks by 2030, alongside the future launch of a European “Buddies Summit.”
Advancing Sustainability and Financial Growth
The Financial Strategy presentation focused on one of the network’s most important long-term priorities: building a financially sustainable future for JA Alumni Europe.
The strategy outlined plans to:
- Diversify funding sources
- Build operational reserves
- Reintroduce the Project Acceleration Fund (PAF)
- Develop scalable partnership models
- Explore future professionalisation opportunities
New concepts such as the JAAE Membership Card ecosystem and expanded support for local alumni initiatives were introduced as part of a broader hybrid funding vision.
Alongside this, the Partnerships Strategy positioned JA Alumni Europe as a long-term strategic partner within the broader JA ecosystem and beyond, emphasizing multi-year collaborations that generate measurable impact for alumni communities across Europe.
Communication, Visibility, and Shared Identity
The Communications & Promotion Strategy presented a shift from reactive communication toward a more structured, Europe-led storytelling model.
The strategy introduced several future-facing initiatives, including:
- Voices of Europe
- Alumni Spotlights
- Keynote Insights
- Segment-based newsletters
- Standardized event communication workflows
The 2030 vision emphasized building a shared alumni identity through clear, consistent storytelling and stronger collaboration between European and national communications teams.
2026–2027 Executive Board Announced
On April 12, the newly elected JA Alumni Europe Executive Board for 2026–2027 was officially announced. All candidates were elected unanimously and will be publicly announced during the JA Alumni Europe Conference in August.
A Defining Milestone for the Global Alumni Movement
The 2026 Alumni Assembly demonstrated what becomes possible when alumni leadership, governance, and long-term vision converge.
Across governance reforms, community-building strategies, partnership frameworks, financial sustainability plans, and alumni activation models, the Assembly reflected a network preparing not only for growth, but for long-term institutional maturity.
As regional alumni ecosystems continue evolving through initiatives such as the Alumni Leaders Academy Global, the first-ever in-person Alumni Assembly stands as a defining milestone in strengthening alumni leadership across Europe and the wider global JA movement.
Under the spirit of #OneJA, the momentum built in Warsaw now carries forward into the next chapter of alumni impact, collaboration, and global convergence!
